Columbus Short is boozing hard and terrorizing the woman he lives with ... IF you buy her version of what's happening in their home -- which a judge did -- but Columbus says she's delusional.

Karin Short was granted a temporary restraining order against the ex "Scandal" star on Monday, and Columbus was ordered to move out. In docs, Karin says Columbus' drunken tirades happen at least 3 times a week. She says during one incident he kicked down the door to their bedroom where she was hiding.

But Karin says the last straw was when Columbus allegedly threatened her 18-year-old son, saying he would "whoop his ass like a man." She tells TMZ she doesn't want a divorce -- the TRO is tough love so Columbus realizes he needs to get treatment for his drinking.

For his part, Columbus also doesn't want a divorce, because he tells us THEY'RE NOT MARRIED. In fact, he dismisses her accusations as total BS.
